Szomorú hírről értesített minket Laurent Vadrot, az AFOEV főtitkára:
Június 11-án, 89 éves korában elhúnyt Emile Schweitzer. Schweitzer bácsi
éveken át küldte a PVH-nak az észleléseit, neki köszönhetően számos AFOEV
térkép jutott el hozzánk, sokan az általa szerkesztett AFOEV Bulletint is
éveken át kaptuk.

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

Instead of Dominique Proust, current AFOEV president, temporarily at the
University of Santiago, Chile, I have the difficult work to announce the
death of Emile Schweitzer.

Emile passed away on June, 11, at the age of 89 years.

Emile Schweitzer started observing the sky in the early 60s, in the local
astronomy association (Societe Astronomique de France - Groupe Alsace). A
few years later, he started working on variable stars, firstly by taking
photographs then observing visually. In the early 80s, he began to use
computer resources helped by the staff of the Strasbourg Observatory. He
has collected, sorted and checked alone all observations received. These
observations were then recorded in the AFOEV database at the Strasbourg
Observatory (more than 6 000 000 observations in 2011). He also drew over
1 000 charts and edited for many years the "Bulletin de l´AFOEV". Emile
created links with many variable stars associations and observers
worldwide. He was successively general secretary, president and honorary
president of the AFOEV. He made himself about 60 000 variable stars
observations.


Asteroid 15052 is named in honor of his work.
