POSSIBLE SUPERNOVA
     J. Vinko, T. Szalai, R. Nagy, and L. Szucs, University of Szeged; T.
Hegedus, I.B. Biro, T. Borkovits, and R. Szakats, Baja Observatory; K.
Sarneczky, Hungarian Astronomical Association; Z. Kiss, Konkoly Observatory;
and B. Csak, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Astronomie, report the discovery of a
possible supernova (mag 16.6) in three 1-min unfiltered CCD images taken on
July 7.04 UT with the 50-cm BART automated telescope at Baja Observatory in
Hungary.  The new object is located at R.A. = 17h17m49s.9, Decl. =
+40d52´52".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 2".4 west and 0".6 south of the
center of the presumed host galaxy SDSS J171750.05+405252.5 (near NGC 6339).
No point source is present at this position on Digitized Sky Survey images
from 1992 July 21 (limiting red mag 21) and 1954 July 7 (limiting red mag
20) or on numerous reference frames taken with BART through 2010 May and
June (limiting mag 19).  Additional unfiltered BART magnitudes (tied to the
Sloan Digital Sky Survey r band via local comparison stars) for the variable:
June 12.98, [19; July 8.9, 16.6; July 10.9, 16.5; July 11.9, 16.4; July
12.9, 16.4; July 14.9, 16.4; July 15.9, 16.5; July 16.9, 16.5; July 17.9,
16.5.  A finding chart for the new object can be found at the following
URL:  http://titan.physx.u-szeged.hu/~sn/bassus-10a.html.
