                   MIDDLE LATITUDE AURORAL ACTIVITY WARNING

                      UPDATED: 21:45 UTC, 08 JUNE 2000

                /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

The coronal mass ejection disturbance that impacted the Earth
shortly
after 09:00 UTC on 08 June contained several periods of significantly
unstable solar wind conditions that prompted increases in auroral
activity.Unfortunately, most of that activity occurred over unpopulated
regions
of the northern Pacific and northeastern Russia. We have not yet received
any
reports of activity from other locations of the world, and conditions
are not looking particularly favorable either.

The magnetic fields imbedded within the disturbance are gradually
becoming less capable of generating auroral storm activity. The
projection is for this to continue, at least until the next disturbance
associated
with the most recent X-class flare impacts the Earth on the 10th at which
time
renewed activity may be observed.

There is a distinct possibility for periods of localized auroral
substorming that may be intense enough to observe from many middle
latitude locations. However, without a change in the pattern we are
currently
seeing in the solar wind, auroral activity won´t be as big and bright as we
had
originally hoped it might be. This should not preclude an attempt to
get out and see if anything can be observed (or photographed).

The next best opportunity will be on 10 June.
